Dr. Lorrie Clemo

Dr. Lorrie A. Clemo has dedicated her life to leadership and service through education. Her career started as a research assistant at Binghamton University. She received full faculty tenure in the public policy and administration program at SUNY Oswego, and after 20 years of service she participated in an American Council on Education Fellowship and grew into the role of Provost and Vice President. Today, Clemo is the President of the nationally-ranked D’Youville University—an institution whose graduates consistently enjoy the highest early-career salaries in Western New York.

As described in the D’Youville’s adaptive strategic plan, Clemo relentlessly advocates for enriching educational excellence, enhancing the student experience, and expanding opportunity and building community. As part of these priorities, D’Youville opened the Health Professions Hub in 2021, a mixed-use facility which offers a wide variety of health services, clinical placements, simulation training, and meeting spaces to host seminars and events. D’Youville also achieved University status in 2022, which kick-started the launch of the Doctoral Studies and Research Center, a space to support research, scholarship, and entrepreneurial activity on campus.

Recent efforts to leverage technology and encourage work-life balance are high on Clemo’s priority list, and it is an integrated part of her overall goal for making D’Youville the wellness capital of the world. D’Youville has long offered free health services such as chiropractic and mental health counseling to employees. In January 2022, D’Youville piloted a 32-hour work week which has been in place ever since. Additionally, the campus has been experimenting with transportation savings initiatives during semester breaks to reduce commuter costs, time, and environmental impact.

Outside of work, Lorrie is a wife, mother, and grandmother: all roles she sees as deeply intertwined with her professional calling and responsibilities. She holds a PhD and MA in Political Science from Binghamton University. Her bachelor’s degree training was conducted at LeMoyne College.
